Dale Jackson, crushed under a mountain of debt after his father’s company went bankrupt.
Lost and helpless in the midst of the Great Depression, he receives a bizarre proposal—become the dog of Charlotte Baskerville, a wealthy young lady.
It was an opportunity he couldn’t afford to pass up. Working for the Baskervilles, the wealthiest family in New York, was a once-in-a-lifetime chance. And so, in the end, Dale accepts.
“Dale, be a good puppy for me.”
“A good puppy? You must be joking. I’m a human, damn it!”
Raised in a strict Puritan household, Dale finds Charlotte’s demands utterly preposterous.
“Good boy. Now, lick.”
“Dogs don’t wear clothes, do they? Let me take them off for you.”
“Dale, you have much to learn.”
But against his will, his body obeys the woman’s commands. And once tainted by the thrill of disgrace, his consciousness sinks deeper and deeper into the abyss.
